If you've never rented on Mt Hood then here's some questions to consider as you inquire for vacation lodging in Government Camp or on Mt Hood. Is your lodging in the snow zone or in a community on the way up the mountain? Our unit is located in Government Camp near the 4000' elevation so you will have the best chance to see it snow and play in it right outside your door. If you rent in communities down the hill you're probably still have to drive up the mountain to be able to play in the snow often during the winter. The snow will stay through spring in Government Camp but not at lower elevations. Stay where it's white and not wet! Wonder when your best chance to have snow is? Check the Cascade snow history chart courtesy of skimountaineer.com.
Is there a cleaning charge or charge for additional people? Often rentals charge extras further inflating your rental cost. We have no cleaning charge and our nightly rate is based on the total number of people the unit can sleep. We don't charge an additional cost per head above the base rate. Do I have to park outside in the weather? Who wants to lug your stuff through snow, slush or even worse ice up stairs to your rental? Or wake up to slide and shovel your way to the car so you can begin the scraping ritual on icy or snowy mornings? Our rental includes at least two spots in our underground heated parking garage accessible by remote garage door opener which is included. You can install your chains or just check them in the warm/dry garage before heading up the mountain. An additional bonus is loading and unloading out of the weather and the building has grocery carts and elevator access available for direct car to unit access. Loading and unloading doesn't get much easier. How many cars can I park at your rental and how often is it plowed? Many Government Camp rentals have a limited parking area. It's often not a plowed location or additional parking that is plowed is blocks away. Our building has ample on street parking for additional and oversized vehicles on a plowed access road to Ski Bowl East. And your car is right in front and not down the road and out of sight. How close are you to the highway? Government Camp has a lot of great rentals but many are next to or very close to busy Hwy 26. Traffic noise is one thing but with the steep downhill grade many trucks use their Jake (exhaust) Brakes the whole way down the hill. No one wants to hear this in the middle of the night especially while on vacation. Do I have to check in and out at a fixed time? Our rental has been self managed for 18 years and we cater to you the renter. We have defined check in and out times but we welcome inquiries to adjust these times if arrangements are made in advance. What if I have problems with the rental home during my stay? Vacation Rental companies often have many units and they often only manage and don't own the accommodation. Our unit is in a building with an onsite caretaker who is often available and knows the building if there are problems during your stay. Do you provide wood for the fireplace? In many rentals you get enough wood "for a evening fire" and that's it. We provide all the wood you need for the wood stove. You can heat yourself and your guests right out of the place if desired. We have one of few heated outdoor pools in Government Camp. There are not many places in Oregon where can you swim in a toasty pool with a view of the ski slopes while it's snowing. Our outdoor pool is heated to 92 degrees in the winter (weekends and holidays only) and there is a sauna just inside to warm up in.
